چکیده

Job scheduling policies for HPC centers have been extensively studied in the last few years, specially backfilling based policies. Almost all of these studies have been done using simulation tools. All the existent simulators use the runtime (either estimated or real) provided in the workload as a basis of their simulations. In our previous work we analyzed the impact on system performance of considering the resource sharing of running jobs including a new resource model in the Alvio simulator. In this paper we present two new Resource Selection Policies that have been designed using the conclusions reached in our preliminary work. First, the Find Less Consume Distribution that attempts to minimize the job runtime penalty that an allocated job will experience. Based on the utilization status of the shared resources in current scheduling outcome and job resource requirements, the LessConsume policy allocates each job process to the free allocations in which the job is expected to experience the lowest penalties. Second, we have also described the Find Less Consume Threshold Distribution selection policy which finds an allocation for the job that satisfies the condition that the estimated job runtime penalty factor is lower than a given value Threshold.

Power-aware Resource Allocation via Online Simulation with Multiple-queue Backfilling

Although traditional scheduling policies for high-end parallel systems focus on minimizing average job wait time while maximizing system utilization, actual supercomputer workload traces confirm the existence of significant periods of time of low utilization. Previous work has shown that, in the context of backfilling schedulers, portions of such high-end systems can be selectively powered down...

Provisioning Techniques and Policies for Resource Sharing between Grids

Grids enable sharing, selection and aggregation of computational resources, storage resources, and scientific instruments belonging to multiple institutions. Scientific collaborations routinely choose Grids to fulfil heavy computational requirements. Recent evidence, however shows that most Grids work in isolation, and with different utilisation levels. This thesis explores mechanisms and techn...

Resource-usage-aware configuration in software product lines

Deriving concrete products from a product-line infrastructure requires resolving the variability captured in the product line, based on the company market strategy or requirements from specific customers. Selecting the most appropriate set of features for a product is a complex task, especially if quality requirements have to be considered. Resource-usage-aware configuration aims at providing a...

Role-Based Secure Inter-operation and Resource Usage Management in Mobile Grid Systems

Dynamic inter-domain collaborations and resource sharing comprise two key characteristics of mobile Grid systems. However, interdomain collaborations have proven to be vulnerable to conflicts that can lead to privilege escalation. These conflicts are detectable in interoperation policies, and occur due to cross-domain role relationships. In addition, resource sharing requires to be enhanced wit...
